What is Docudays NGO?
The Docudays NGO is a non-profit public organisation whose goal is to facilitate the observance and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, to promote the understanding of human dignity as the highest value, to increase the level of civic engagement in Ukraine and to promote the development of documentary cinema.
How did the idea for the Lab come about?
The idea originated from the interdisciplinary art programme DOCU/SYNTHESIS. According to the curatorial concept, in cooperation with invited artists, we created statements that helped to reveal other facets of the Docudays UA topic. Combining this experience with the documentary materials of the Ukraine War Archive, we organised a Lab dedicated to the topic of memory and preservation of cultural heritage.
What is the Ukraine War Archive?
The Ukraine War Archive is a non-profit partnership platform for digital data storage created by the Docudays NDO and the British organisation “Infoscope”. It forms a single register of materials (~20 million files) related to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Who owns the rights to the materials from the Ukraine War Archive?
The copyright holder of the documentary materials of the Ukraine War Archive is the author of these materials or the organisation that acquired the rights to the materials. They grant the Docudays NGO special permission to use them within the Laboratory.
Will the artworks be transferred to the Archive? Who owns the rights to them?
Yes, the work created within the Lab is transferred to the Ukraine War Archive, which already contains a number of artworks. Non-property copyrights remain with the author, and property copyrights are transferred to the project donor with the right for the Docudays NGO to use the works. An author's fee is provided for the work.
Do you plan to exhibit the works abroad?
Yes, upon completion of the Lab, thematic artworks created within it will be recommended by our curators for festivals, art institutions, and international discussion platforms to raise awareness of the preservation of Ukraine's cultural heritage and memory practices during a full-scale war.
